You’ve probably seen your fair share of color blocking – from the fashion week runways, glossy magazines, in your favorite stores….and it’s not going away anytime soon. Color blocking is on tap as a fall trend, but how do you make it wearable for everyday? You might color block your outfit, but would you color block your makeup? It’s easier than you think and we’re here to help! Here are some of our favorite looks and makeup tips for rocking the color block in your everyday life.
Pick one color: The easiest way to wear color blocked makeup is to pick one shade and wear it all over. A monochromatic look is tough to mess up. Pick a flattering color for your skin tone like pretty pink and wear it on your lids, lips, cheeks, and nails. Photo: wholikethat.com
Pair it with black: Try a double eye liner look for an easy way to color block. Grab you favorite colored eye liner pencil or cream pot with an Angled Eye Liner Brush. We recommend trying two techniques. First, apply a bright colored liner to the lid a little thicker than you normally would, then apply a black liner directly at the lash line in a thin strip. Or try applying your black liner first and then apply a thin strip of color directly above the black liner. Photo from: nerdygirlmakeup.com
Pop up eyes and lips: If you want to go a little further with your color blocking makeup, pick two colors that compliment each other and wear one on your lips and one on your eyes. We love this look from BeautyEditor.ca featuring baby blue eyes and a bright, poppy pink lip as seen on the Christian Dior models. Use a cream eye shadow with your Angled Crease Brush for the best effect. If you’re looking for something more subtle, use a powder or mineral shadow with your Eye Shading Brush dipped in water. Don’t forget to pile on mascara! For lips, make sure to pick a bright shade and apply it to freshly exfoliated lips with a matching or clear lip liner. Cheeks should stay neutral.
