Eating for Healthy Skin: Fruits

Radiant, glowing, hydrated skin is so important, especially in the summer.  You drink plenty of water, use gorgeous makeup, and super soft makeup brushes, but did you know you can eat your way to healthy skin?  Beautiful skin is about good habits!  Overuse of products is one of the biggest mistakes people make in their skincare regimen according to Dermatologist Jeanie Leddon, MD, PhD.  Why not give your skin a head start by eating your way to healthy skin?

Kelly Campbell, a Los Angeles public relations consultant does!  She tells WebMD that she doesn’t have a secret when it comes to her gorgeous skin, but she eats a host of healthy foods.  She’s a vegan and starts her day with mango, blueberry, and spinach smoothie, avoids processed foods and buys organic fruits and veggies at her local farmer’s market.  All of these are good choices!  Fruits and veggies help keep skin glowing and wrinkle free since they’re packed with antioxidants and vitamins.

Check out these 5 best fruits for healthy skin from Newsmax.com:

Kiwi and Pomegranate: Eating kiwi fruit helps ensure healthy, clear, beautiful skin since kiwis are rich in pectin and fiber, which strengthen digestion. They also may prevent wrinkles and blemishes.  Pomegranates are also superb for overall skin health since they’re power-packed with antioxidants which fight against free radicals, control acne, and prevent wrinkles.

Papaya and Peach: Papaya is a natural exfoliating tonic; it leaves your skin spotless with its high vitamin content.  With moisture rich peaches, you can say goodbye to dry skin.

Lemon and Berries: Consuming citrus fruits practically helps guarantee clear skin.  Choose citrus fruits like oranges, mandarins, and lemons.  They’re rich in vitamin C, which is great for the skin.  Berries like strawberries, cranberries, or blueberries are all great for overall health, their antioxidants can work wonders for rejuvenating your skin.

Apple and Banana: Apples win because of their toning capabilities. You can achieve perfectly toned and conditioned skin if you eat apples. Apples are also rich in pectin – the starch essential in driving away acne, while bananas contain emolliating natural fats and complex proteins to smooth and soften your skin.

Don’t forget your vegetables though!  The fiber content in vegetables helps increase the flow of chemical amylase enzymes in the body, enhancing the digestive process.   A balanced diet is an essential prescription for healthy and vibrant skin. The good news is that the foods that happen to be good for your skin are also good for your overall health, points out healthy eating expert Joy Bauer.  You can also use fruits and vegetables ON your body for soft, radiant skin results.  Consider making your own body scrub with sugar, honey, olive, oil, and your favorite citrus fruit, use green tea bags to de-puff eyes, or make a face mask with fruit and oatmeal.
