You’ve already read our tips for being an Eco-Bride, now let’s help you create the perfect bridal makeup.  Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life, so you want to make sure you look extra fabulous.  You’ve probably hired a professional photographer to capture the day and all your friends and family will surely be snapping pictures.  So this is not an event to skimp on makeup.  Make sure to take time to think about how you want your hair and makeup to look…after all you’ll be looking at these photos for years to come!

Here are our top four dos and one don’t for creating a beautiful, natural bridal makeup look:

Do Look Like Yourself

You want to wear a little more makeup than normal, so you don’t look washed out in photographs, but you still want to look like yourself.  If you don’t usually wear a high glam look, there’s no need to do it for your wedding.  You want to look like yourself, only better.  Take Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton for example – she didn’t bow to the pressure of wearing a bridal updo, she styled her hair in a classic half up style that was perfectly her.

Don’t Try Something New the Day Of

You wedding day is definitely not the day to try a new makeup look.  Experiment with new makeup ideas well before the week of your wedding.  You don’t want to discover you hate a pastel smokey eye minutes before your walk down the aisle, or worse, have an allergic reaction to your new self-tanning spray the day before.  There’s no need to buy a bunch of bridal only makeup products.  Stick to your tried and true brands and colors.  If you do want to find some new products, don’t leave anything to chance.  Try all new products at least two weeks in advance so your body has time to recover should you have any problems.

Do Consider False Eye Lashes

All eyes will be on you, so make sure your eyes are peering back with full, open eyes.  False eye lashes help make your eyes look more open and gives your normal lashes a boost.  If you’ve never worn false lashes before, grab a pair from your favorite beauty department and get practicing.  It takes a few tries to get them right.  The most important thing?  Apply just a little eye lash specific glue and let it get a little tacky, then position the eye lash strip as close to your lash line as possible.  If your strips are a little too long, trim them from the longest end before applying.  If you’re nervous about false lashes looking natural, opt for a shorter version that only goes on the ends of your eyes or have a professional makeup artist help you out.

Do Wear a Little More Makeup

Since flash photography has a tendency to wash faces out, you’ll want to apply a little more makeup than you usually do.  Definitely opt for a matte foundation applied with a foundation brush for a velvet-y finish.  Follow up by buffing powder (which your buffing brush of course!) into any shinny areas and on top of your nose.  Give blush extra staying power by applying a cream and a powder version.  Apply the cream powder with your Contour Kabuki Brush and follow it with a swipe of powder blush with a fluffy blush brush.  For eyes, you’ll want to use a couple colors to achieve the best eye look for you.  We like using our 6 Piece Eye Brush Set, which has a brush for any eye look you want to achieve.  Don’t forget a thin layer or eye liner and a couple coats of mascara to finish your eyes.  Pick a lipstick that flatters the rest of your makeup but won’t get all over your groom when it’s time to kiss the bride.

Do Opt for a Natural Glow

You’ll want to look fresh faced and have a natural glow on your wedding day.  Check out our post on The Fresh and Flawless Face for a great place to start.  You want to make sure you have an even complexion and create some dimension with bronzer or a blush/bronzer combo applied with a kabuki brush.  Don’t forget the sunscreen if your wedding is taking place outside!
