Summer is essentially here…the days are warmer, the sun is shining, and it’s time to break out those maxi dresses and swim suits. What do you do with your makeup? We’re happy to report one of summer 2012’s trends is a fresh face. There’s no better compliment to a summer day than a fresh face-it gives you an even complexion, a sun kissed glow, and natural dimension. The fresh and flawless face look is perfect if you’re wearing a bright and poppy color, instead of trying to match bold colors of eye shadow or if you’re headed to a beach side soiree. Need some more inspiration? Here are some simple steps to help create this look:
Eyes: Always apply at least a sweep or two of eye color to avoid looking washed out. Use a neutral brown eye palette for the most versatility. You can create a neutral wash, a two tone eye, or even a chocolate inspired soft smokey eye. Just make sure to use an extra big brush for blending all the colors, like our Bamboo Eye Shading Brush. Top it all off with a waterproof mascara. No one likes streaky black eyes.

Lips: Lipstick can feel too heavy on extra warm days while lip gloss can get sticky in the sun. Opt for a lipstain or creamy, colored lip balm. We like Maybelline’s Baby Lips which come in a small array of colors and contain SPF. If your lips are still a little dry, try using a lip scrub before applying color – create your own with sugar, honey, olive oil and a dash of lemon for some DIY lip magic.

Face: After applying your favorite foundation, buff in a touch of powder on any shiny areas with our new Buffing Brush. Then apply a fun blush color. Summer is the perfect time to upgrade to a bright coral or pretty pink blush. Both those colors can help “instantly lift your face,” according to makeup artist Jeanie Lobell. You can apply a cream blush to dry skin with your fingers, but a powder version is best applied with a fluffy Powder Brush. If you’ll be out in the sun, don’t forget to finish with a layer of sunscreen!
