Detox Your Makeup Bag

Want to take the extra step in living beautifully?  Detox your makeup bag!  Your average makeup products contain tons of chemicals and toxins, but unfortunately, are not regulated by the FDA.  Want to reduce your exposure?  Swap out some of your standard products for natural and organic ones.  Luckily, there are tons of companies creating natural makeup that’s just as good, if not better, than their mainstream counterparts.  So dump out your makeup bag and make some changes.  Here are some products to start with:

Your Makeup Bag
If you already have a beloved makeup bag, the greenest thing to do is keep using it.  If you’re in the market for a new bag, check out our line of pretty, natural ones designed by Alica Silverstone.  Her Cosmetic Bag is created will sustainable, all natural hemp and cotton and has a sustainable PET lining.

Your Makeup Brushes
Naturally, if you’re detoxing your makeup bag and your makeup, you’ll want beauty tools to match.  Switch to eco-friendly and cruelty free makeup brushes.  Ours are created with recycled aluminum, sustainable bamboo, and 100% cruelty free bristles.  Shop the EcoTools collection now.

Your Moisturizer
Moisturizer is the first thing you put on your face.  Since it soaks into your skin, it’s the first thing you’ll want to detox.  Switch from an unnecessarily colored and fragranced brand to one without unnecessary ingredients.  Try Burt’s Bees Radiance Day Cream whose first two ingredients are water and sunflower seed oil.

Your Foundation
Switch from your traditional foundation with ingredients like bismuth oxychloride (a manmade powder created with lead and copper) and boron nitride (a manmade chemical) to something more natural.  Try Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation, which is free of parabans, phthalates, and is cruelty free.

Your Lip Color
When lip color wears off it’s not just disappearing; you’re actually ingesting tiny amounts of it.  Eek.   Switch to an all-natural version whose ingredients read more like a recipe.  Try Juice Beauty by Alicia Silverstone Purely Kissable Lip Color.  It’s so natural, it comes in only one signature shade created with organic passion fruit, acai and goji berries.

Your Mascara
Especially if you have sensitive eyes or are prone to styes, switching to an organic mascara is the way to go.  Try Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara.  Hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and 47% of the ingredients are organic.

Your Eye Shadow
Eye Shadow may not seem like an area you need to detox, but those little toxic flakes can sneak into your eyes and cause irritation.  For an extra green bonus, opt for eye shadows that are refillable so you don’t have to toss the whole palette when your favorite shade runs out.  Try eye shadow palettes from Tarte.  Same goes for your blush and powder.

Load all your new goodies into your makeup bag and feel good about living beautifully.  Don’t worry if you can’t switch everything out at once.  Wait for the products you’re currently using to run out and then slowly switch over to natural, eco-friendly products.  You’ll be living beautifully in no time.
