As you know, here at EcoTools one of the ways we live beautifully is to give back! When you buy an EcoTools product we donate 1% of our annual revenue to charity as a member of 1% for the Planet. One of the fabulous charities we proudly support is the Wildlife Alliance.
The Wildlife Alliance combats deforestation, wildlife extinction, climate change, and poverty by partnering with local communities and governments. Their programs aim to conserve the environment and stop the illegal wildlife trade by directly protecting wildlife in the field, reducing consumer demand for wildlife, and providing alternative livelihoods for local communities. We’re proud to support such a great mission!
Our 2011 donation directly contributed to the following:
- Rescued nearly 4,700 live animals from the illegal wildlife trade
- Built a fourth prosthesis for Chhouk, our rescued Asian elephant who was found missing a leg
- Planted 280,000 trees, using indigenous plant species, to reconnect fragmented rainforest and protect the vulnerable watershed
- Launched nearly 6,000 rangers patrols, day and night, by foot, truck, motorbike, boat and helicopter to protect the Southern Cardamom rainforest.
- Provided direct assistance to 187 families working their own family farms at our Community Agriculture Development Project, where almost half of families made more than 720% above the poverty line.
- Educated over 3,000 students in environmental conservation and wildlife protection.
