milly presents polished looks & playful prints

Milly_1

Milly is known for classic tailoring in bright colors and prints. This season took the usual,  quirky sophistication to a new level with a style aesthetic that screamed ‘geek chic’. Narrow sunglasses with upturned outer wings played into a Mod theme, while bold color-blocked and print ensembles were complemented by various shades of matte pink on the models lips.

The Milly woman is confident, playful and classic. To recreate a Milly outfit, combine bold colors in geometric prints with classic white, and opt for a woven material when possible to add a bit of luxe to your overall look.

The beauty styling for Milly was simple and clean, portraying a proper British beauty. To get the look, here are my tips:

  1. Start with a clean and moisturized face, and even out your skin tone and complexion by touching up only where needed with a lightweight concealer, using the EcoTools Bamboo Deluxe Concealer Brush.
  2. Contour the cheeks and add shape to your face by brushing a tinted bronzer like the Radiance Powder from Bare Escentuals below the cheekbones and sweep upwards and outwards towards the temples. The EcoTools Bronzer Brush is perfect for this!
  3. This look is all about the lip, so choose a color that is vibrant and complements your skin tone. The key to this lip is to matte it after application to get the desired effect as well as secure long-lasting wear. Gently tap a finishing powder over your lips with a bigger brush, like the EcoTools Powder Brush to set your lipstick and make it appear more pastel.

badgley mischka stuns with a retro revival

Badgley_Mischka_open

The Badgley Mischka runway show was every bit as glamorous and breathtaking as I expected it to be. The double-team designers never cease to capture the celebration of being a woman and how to dress to accentuate any number of features. This season, the SS12 collection showing at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week paid homage to our insatiable love for the Mad Men era with sweetheart cuts and high waistlines straight out of the 1960’s.

Numerous gowns in peach, daffodil yellow and a richer shade of crimson orange floated down the runways on models styled with a modernized French twist. Spring always rings true for fresh and clean faces that are already rosy with the joy of a coming summer. In keeping with the style of the 60’s, makeup artists styled the models with an exaggerated cat eye liner which angled its way along the lash line all the way up to the outer edge of a perfectly shaped brow, framing the eye wonderfully. Luminous glints of light reflected off the brow and cheek bones of the models while a soft and slightly enhanced natural lip grounded the look.

To get the look from Badgley Mischka SS12, here is what I suggest:

  1. Start with a flawless complexion using a tinted moisturizer that is not too heavy yet offers coverage, like the Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer from Tarte, and blend evenly with the EcoTools Bamboo Foundation Brush. Make sure to apply both below the eye and on the eyelid.
  2. Next, use the EcoTools Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush to get a perfect line when drawing on a 1960’s style cat eye. I like to use Organic Cake Eyeliner from Nvey Eco.
  3. Don’t forget to highlight your brow bones (just below your eyebrow) and the top of your cheek bones to add a youthful glow to your face. Try Living Luminizer from RMS Beauty.
  4. Finally finish off the look with a swipe of slightly pigmented lip gloss to add just a touch of color to the lips and mostly accentuate your natural lip color. I die for Rodin Olio Lusso’s luxurious lip balm - it is such a treat for your perfect pout!

This look is very wearable and perfect for the office. Don’t worry, you don’t have to wait until spring to sport it either! I’ve listed my favorite products for a naturally enhanced look. What are some of your most loved beauty products you’ll use to get the look?

a breath of fresh air at suzanne rae

Suzanne_Rae_EcoTools

Suzanne Rae has done it again - created a collection that communicates sophistication and ease with a dash of serenity. Described by the designer herself as, “A line to be worn by cool and confident women around the world”, carefree and subtly enhanced makeup was the perfect accoutrement.

To get the carefree look from Rae’s SS12 runway show, here’s what you need:

  1. Mineral Veil from Bare Escentuals to naturally even out skin tone.
  2. EcoTools Bamboo Finishing Kabuki Brush for evenly applying the Mineral Veil.
  3. Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow from Young Blood in Tourmaline to apply to eyelids and highlight any eye color.
  4. The Bamboo 6-Piece Eye Brush Set from EcoTools for eye shadow application with precision.
  5. A sweep of mascara with Dr. Hauschka’s Lash Strengthening Mascara.
  6. Finish off the look with the moisturizing Plant A Kiss Lip Conditioner from EcoTools for plump lips with a touch of mint.

The pop of a pinkish orange eye pulled the show together connecting every piece, and adding a spirited and clean look to the models. The SS12 collection was like a breath of fresh and pure air. Flowing fabrics trailed behind the models as they walked, while form flattering swimsuits provided structure. A perfect balance of opposites that, in the end, created a wonderful state of stylish zen.

Come back later today to view video from the show as well as our interview with Suzanne Rae herself!
